From ‘bat cave’ to idea factory
Powerhouse Arts is an architectural gem, born from the meticulous restoration of an early 20th-century power plant. The project gains particular significance through the influence of American building culture:
A nation long focused on renewal is increasingly recognising the value of preservation, heightening the relevance of Italian expertise in this field.
Powerhouse Arts is among the first major revitalisation projects in this part of New York and is now considered a benchmark, both architecturally and in terms of complex logistics.
A particular challenge was posed by the monumental, heritage-listed window openings spanning three storeys. A bespoke ad-hoc system was developed: façade elements stretching from the ground floor to the third storey were fitted with a concealed framework and precisely integrated into the arched windows. The dimensions of these components – manufactured in our Bolzano workshop, shipped to New York and transported to Brooklyn – made the project a logistical triumph.
