projects

Our passion and drive have been instrumental to the success of numerous projects both domestically and all around the world.
All of those projects have different characteristics, different background stories and different specific requirements.
But each and every one of them embodies our whole experience.
They are all unique.
From industrial hangars to high-bay warehouses, from bold suspension bridges to glass skyscrapers in the world’s largest cities, we have realised more than 2000 projects over the years.
The following selection showcases our various areas of competence.

Form meets function: Bruneck ice sports centre in South Tyrol

With three covered ice rinks and seating for around 4,000 spectators, the Bruneck ice sports centre spans an area of 10,000 square metres in the South Tyrolean Pustertal valley. Its intricate roof construction posed a particular challenge.

The entire roof of the Bruneck ice sports centre, built by PICHLER projects, consists of three-dimensional elements curved in the transverse direction at various radii. It slopes in the longitudinal direction. The load-bearing structure has a span of approximately 50 metres. No element is like another; thousands of rods of different types converge at around 900 star-shaped nodes to form the grid-like pattern of the roof.

Due to the complex and unusual nature of the edifice, it was crucial that the time-consuming technical implementation and factory planning period were meticulously coordinated with production, delivery and assembly. The assembly plan for the roof had to be planned and coordinated in great detail, as the available pre-assembly space was very limited, and the other trades involved had to continue their work at the same time. In a continuous process, large roof sections weighing around 20 tonnes each were pre-assembled in narrow spaces, lifted into place and installed.

The technical solutions which PICHLER projects used when developing its structural take into account not only the complex static features of the load-bearing structure but also the architect’s high aesthetic standards for the steel construction.
