Markas headquarters in Bolzano
At the outskirts of central Bolzano stands a visually striking building. Designed by ATP architekten ingenieure, it houses the headquarters of the service provider Markas. Not only is the twelve-storey office tower a prime example of sustainable district development, it also utilises the space of its plot, limited by strict urban-planning regulations, optimally.
The V-shaped truss structure has a façade of self-compacting reinforced concrete and supports the building at its nodal points. A wide range of construction methods was used to control the indoor climate of the energy-efficient building. For example, an automatically controlled sun protection system is integrated into the coupled-window façade. This single element meets a whole host of requirements: it makes the building thermally and visually pleasing, provides glare protection, opens for easy cleaning and maintenance, improves acoustics and facilitates the flexible installation of divider walls. The 3,590-square-metre façade concept by PICHLER projects further allows 58% of all interior spaces to receive a daylight factor higher than 2.
Thanks to these features, the Markas headquarters fulfils not only the criteria of the international Well Building Standard, it even received a special mention in the 2021 German Design Awards. The building has also won the first Austrian Green Planet Building Award 2023.
